A colposcopy is a method of viewing your cervix under magnification with an instrument called a colposcope. This procedure is indicated when an abnormal pap smear is identified. The microscope (colposcope) helps the physician to identify any abnormality on your cervix. A biopsy can then be performed during this procedure. Correlation of this biopsy with your pap results allows the proper further management to be determined by the physician.
