The Light Sheer and our new, revolutionary Isolaz Laser System is designed for permanent hair reduction, and both are approved by the FDA. Its efficacy has been demonstrated for over 10 years. There are three stages of hair growth, and hair grows at different rates depending on the area of the body. In order to disable all of the hair at a site, multiple treatments are necessary at regular intervals. The follicles in the area must be treated in the “active” phase. On average 6-8 treatments are needed to achieve "permanent" hair reduction. You can expect significant change after the first treatment and each treatment thereafter. Any hair follicles that are treated are permanently disabled. Hormonal changes, medications, and age can all stimulate new hair follicles to become activated and new hair growth can occur. Any newly stimulated hair follicles would also need to be treated in their active growth phase.
Lasers have been used safely in medicine for over 35 years. This laser was specifically designed for hair removal which adds to its safety. To monitor skin response and ensure safety, a test patch is performed on each patient.
The laser delivers quick bursts of light that is absorbed by the pigment found in the hair shaft. The laser creates excessive heat that disables the follicle. The "Chill-Tip", unique to the Light Sheer laser, actively cools the surrounding tissue and skin before, during, and after each pulse. This laser was designed to disable a hair follicle without damaging the surrounding skin. The intensity and duration of each pulse is carefully chosen by a skilled practitioner to do just that in a split second. Because the laser works by being absorbed by pigment it will not destroy hair that is not pigmented (i.e. gray, white, red, or very fine lightly- pigmented hair.)
Pain sensation varies from person to person, although the new Isolaz is the only laser system on the market that is pain free. Ice can be used before and after treatment to aid in pain relief, if experienced.
Some mild redness, swelling, or heat sensation for a few hours is normal. This is temporary and will last at most up to a few days. Side effect risks increase based upon the amount of hair and pigment in the skin; because of this people with darker skin types are at slightly higher risk.
Electrolysis treats only one hair follicle at a time, has a higher risk of causing scarring, and is very time consuming. The laser treats up to 200 follicles with each pulse and dozens of pulses are administered each treatment.
The complete growth cycle of hair, including dormancy, can range from 30--180 days. Typical time between treatments ranges from 4-10 weeks, depending on the area being treated. Most likely, you will need about 8 treatments for at least a 60-80 percent reduction, but the laser technician will help you to individualize your plan.
The length of the treatment depends upon the size of the area being treated. Consultations and test patch sites typically require 30 minutes.
Consultation is complimentary. Please keep in mind the cost of your time and energy tweezing, waxing, shaving, and the cost of razors over years, when comparing to the benefits and cost of laser hair removal.
