Pre-Conceptual Counseling
We encourage women and their partners to meet with us several months before conception is planned.
We will take an individual and family health history as well as obtaining information about the prospective father's health. We can make recommendations at that time that may improve your chances of having a healthy baby.
Routine preconceptual testing will also be addressed at this time including rubella and cystic fibrosis screening.
West Suburban Women's Health recommends that all women wishing to become pregnant take a prenatal vitamin containing a minimum of 400 micrograms of folic acid for at least 2 months before conception is attempted. Research has shown that this practice can decrease a woman's chance of her baby being born with certain birth defects.
