Special On-Site Gynecological Services
Our physicians offer many special services in the office to save patients unnecessary trips to the hospital. These include:
In-house Ultrasound
Both vaginal and abdominal ultrasounds are available in the office for early pregnancy confirmation and various obstetric and gynecological assessments.
Colposcopy
A colposcopy is a method of viewing your cervix under magnification with an instrument called a colposcope. This procedure is indicated when an abnormal pap smear is identified. The microscope (colposcope) helps the physician to identify any abnormality on your cervix. A biopsy can then be performed during this procedure. Correlation of this biopsy with your pap results allows the proper further management to be determined by the physician.
LEEPservices
When tests show that you have abnormal cells on your cervix, your doctor may offer you a LEEP (Loop Electrocautery Excision Procedure). LEEP is used to remove the abnormal cells from your cervix. This is accomplished by using a thin wire loop with an electric current that can cut away a thin layer of the surface cells of your cervix.
DEXA (Bone Density Scanning) WSWH has a state of the art bone density scanner on site. It is a quick and painless X-Ray scan of the Lumbar vertebrae and hip. These two locations provide valuable information regarding the health and strength of your bones. Results are received within the day and you and your physician are able to discuss the results and determine a course of action that needs to be taken to prevent bone loss.
HPV (Human Papiloma Virus) Testing and Vaccination
Our office follows the most recent recommendations of the American Academy of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. We provide HPV testing when indicated and the HPV vaccine to girls and women ages 12-26. We recommend that you speak with your physician to determine in the vaccine is appropriate and will meet your needs.
